Notes from Michelle

Good afternoon from beautiful Lake Kivu in Rwanda.

Driving Kigali to Gisenyi was a stark contrast to the dry Tanzania region we were in. Rwanda is the land of a Thousand Hills and each hill is full of lush vegetation, crops and beautiful people.

This afternoon we delivered all of the soccer gear from Canada to the Black Eagles and were entertained by very talented players. They enlisted the local fishermen for an exhibition game for our benefit. Thank you so much to those of you who helped with soccer collection and delivery... they are so grateful.

We were honoured to have been invited into the homes of friends here on Lake Kivu. It is humbling.

We had a walk along the Congo Nile Trail through villages and stunning views of the lake. As you can see, Yvon has been taking beautiful photos.

Have a good weekend and stay warm!

Emmanuel, Yvon and Emmanuel's family with new gear
From Patty: We are particularly fond of Emmanuel, who has been a waiter at Paradis Malahide for many years. He is always smiling and quite literally comes running with the food orders. I cannot think of many people with more joie de vivre. He works from 6 AM till 11 PM six days a week! He and his family (his wife + 7 children), live in a tiny house near Paradis. Spending time with Emmanuel was a highlight of our visit to this area.

To our families and friends in Nova Scotia, we are thinking of you and sorry for terrible storm. I hope you have power again.

We send lots of love and warm wishes. Now it's time to get ready for the wedding.
