brave children

We spent the day at CHUK.  Jennifer helped set up an area for regional anesthesia in the pre-op zone and I was happy to see a number of ultrasound guided regional blocks being done, under the supervision of Mike (from HRH).  It is wonderful that patients can receive their nerve blocks and be ready for surgery while the last case is being completed. This will improve operating room efficiency enormously.  As well, there is good safety for the patients who can breath room air and stay awake and have good pain control.  CHUK has a high volume of paediatric surgery. Rwandan children are very stoic; even little 7 and 8 year olds will have spinal anesthesia.  I can't imagine that going over well in Canada.

The Lifebox pulse oximeters are a great addition to patient safety.  Happily, they seem to be in good supply.

This next one is for Michelle.  I miss you! Please come back.  Your office is ready and breakfast awaits.

Later... Tristan giving Christophe a cooking lesson
